Thrissur: The Cultural Capital of India


Thrissur, formerly known as Thiru Siva Peroor, is the fourth largest city in Kerala. The city is most famous for its very colorful and vibrant temple festivals that are a treat to watch. Thrissur is also known as the “Cultural Capital of Kerala” due to its constant endeavor to revive the almost extinct classical Keralan performing arts.

The major tourist attractions of this enchanting city are its art and archaeological museums that give you a glimpse of its rich culture. Besides, temples like Vadakkunathan and Paramekkavu are also worth visiting due to their sheer grandeur. The beautiful waterfall of Athirapalli is situated at a distance of about 63 kilometers from the main city, so if you are a nature lover, you can drive there to get a glimpse of gushing water amidst scenic mountains.

As Thrissur receives heavy rainfalls during the period of June to September, it is best to avoid visiting during these months. The climate is largely tropical due to close proximity to the sea, so you can plan a visit any time as the temperatures remain the same throughout the year.
