Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari: Southernmost Tip of the Indian Peninsula

The southernmost tip of the country, Kanyakumari is a small town that attracts tourists from all over the world for both recreational and spiritual purposes. Since it is nearly surrounded by sea, the spectacular view of the sunset and sunrise is an experience of a lifetime.

Kanyakumari is also an important hub of pilgrimage. It has derived its name from goddess Devi Kanya Kumari and there are quite a few notable temples in the city like Kanyakumari Temple, Kalbhairava Temple and Thanumalayam Temple where people come to pay their obeisance. Swami Vivekananda Memorial and the massive statue of saint poet Thiruvalluvar are other important tourist attractions.

Tourists throng this beautiful city throughout the year, though the best time to visit would be during the winter months of October to March. If you love rain, plan a visit during July or August and see the lush green natural beauty of the city at its best. You can also avail some amazing off-season discounts!

The city is full of restaurants and hotels serving ever major cuisine, though you’ll find authentic local food at small eating joints at unbelievable prices. Everything will, of course, have a hint of coconut (since you are in Kanyakumari!) and the most amazing food to look forward to would be coconut rice, Meen Kolumbu and Avial. General weather of this destination is Rainy. This destination is of type Beaches.
