Konark: The Home of Sun Temple
Famous for its 13th-Century Sun Temple, Konark is located in the state of Odisha, India. Bhubaneshwar is the leading city situated near the town, and is also the nearest airport and railway station. Built in the shape of a giant chariot, the magnificent Sun Temple at Konark is one of the seven wonders of India. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The beautiful Sun Temple made of black granite is now mostly in ruins as the temple fell into disuse during the reign of Mughal emperor Jahangir after his convoy desecrated it.
