The Golden Temple, Amritsar: The Golden temple is a first thing for visitors to start their sightseeing with. It is the holiest temple for Sikh religion in Amritsar. The temple is fully surrounded by water makes this complex stunning structure. The Golden temple is worth visiting twice a day, once in the morning and in the evening especially when whole complex is beautifully lit up. Remove your shoes and cover your head by bandannas before head in to the complex. Golden temple is visited by thousands of pilgrims every day. Please find below an important things to know before entering the temple.
a ) : Wash your feet at the entrance of the complex before you enter.
b ) : Whoever wishes to bath, they can bath at Amrit Sarovar ( A giant water Pool ) surrounds the temple. The pool gets the reflection of Golden temple making it stunning structure.
c ) : The Golden Temple is also known as Harmandir Sahib. A two story structure is floating above the Amrit Sarovar ( A water Pool ) . Sacred Adi Granth scripture is kept inside and chanted out loud for whole day by the Sikh saints.
d ) : Guru Arjan Sahib, the Fifth Nanak, conceived the idea of creating a central place of worship for the Sikhs and he himself designed the architecture of Sri Harmandir Sahib.
e ) : Akal Takht : Means the Throne of Immortal. It is beautiful building is located in the same complex just opposite the temple. It is the highest political institution of Sikh, where the highest council of the Sikh religion sits and deliberates. It was founded by Guru Hargobind on June 15, 1606.
f ) :Central Sikh Museum on the second floor of the temple houses an amazing gallery of rare paintings Sikh Gurus, historical and precious art facts with detailed description.
Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar : The site is very close to the Golden Temple, basically a memorial to the men, women and children who were killed by British Indian Army soldiers in 1919. Soldiers opened fire on an unarmed gathering of Sikh people and lasted for 10 minutes where 1579 people were killed including women and children. Bullet holes on the walls can still be seen and a well into where people jumped attempting to save their lives, finally drowned, is also inside the complex.
Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh: It is located inside the Ram Bagh Park. The Palace, now converted into a museum exhibiting oil paintings, miniatures and weapons of Sikhs dating back to the Mughal times.

Wagah Border: Beating Retreat Ceremony
It is an Indo-Pak road border between the two cities namely Amritsar, Punjab in India and Lahore, Punjab in Pakistan. Wagah border is 28 km from Amritsar and 22 km from Lahore. Wagah is not just an army outpost for India and Pakistan, Beating Retreat Ceremony and the Change of Guard between the solders of India and Pakistan also take place here daily in the evening. The highlight is lowering of the flags of the two countries simultaneously. The flags are folded and the ceremony ends with a gesture that involves a brusque handshake between soldiers from both side followed by the closing of the gates. The spectacle of the ceremony attracts many visitors from both sides of the border, as well as international tourists for its high energy and enthusiastic ceremonial practice.

Wagah Border Ceremony Timings: The Beating Retreat and Flag lowering ceremony takes place at around 04:30 PM everyday in winters and 05:30 PM in summers. Reaching there by 03:30 PM is recommended to avoide rush.
