Day 1

Dehradun – Sankri

Places to Visit During Drive: Dehradun – Mussoorie – Kempty Falls – Naugaon – Purola – Mori – Netwar – Sankri

After arrive at Dehradun take a bus or a shared vehicle to Sankri that leaves at around 6 am from Mussoorie Bus Stand near Dehradun Railway Station. If you miss that, then you can break the journey in two parts by taking a bus or shared cab from Dehradun to Purola and then Purola to Sankri.

Sankri is a small village and the last roadhead in Govind Ballabh Pant Wildlife Sanctuary. There is a GMVN Guest House and some hotels in Sankri along with a couple of Village Homestays.

Day 2

Sankri – Taluka – Seema

There is a 12kms jeepable road connecting Sankri with Taluka. The trail goes through dense forest of chestnut, walnut and chinars. Taluka village is situated at an altitude of 2, 410mts above sea level. The trekking route from Taluka to Seema stays on the right side of Supin River. You’ll need to cross wooden bridges over streams and do occasional climbs which doesn’t last for long. While trekking you will encounter couple of alternative routes that leads to different Jaunsari villages of that region, avoid them and stick to the route. After 8kms of trekking, you will see a beautiful village with unique wooden houses on the left side of the river, Gangad Village. It takes another 2 hours from this point to reach Seema. There is a GMVN Guest House at Seema along with couple of shops and houses.

Day 3

Seema – Har ki Doon

As soon as you cross Seema you will see a bridge over Supin River, cross it and climb a steep route until you reach a small bridge over a stream. It will take you half an hour to tackle this stretch. The trekking trail is visible for the next 4kms gradually ascending towards the left top over a vast expanse of lush green meadow. After covering couple of kilometers the Ruinsara Valley on the right side will open up. Kala Nag ( Black Peak ) and Banderpunch Range reveals itself. While traversing this trail you will cross the 3, 000mts altitude mark. You will see the shepherds grazing their flock. After crossing this stretch, you will enter another valley that leads to Har ki Doon. Since Har ki Doon region comes in Govind Ballabh Pant Wildlife Reserve, you will witness a wide variety of flora and fauna with passing this trail. The route descends as you walk on the left side of the cascading river. There are a lot of giant rocks and bushes on both sides of the trekking trail couple of kilometer before Har ki Doon.

Soon the route opens up and Hata Peak becomes visible. Har ki Doon is situated at the foot of Hata Peak. There is a beautiful camping ground at Har ki Doon with a calm stream flowing in between. It is the best camping site you’ll come across while trekking to Har ki Doon.

There is a Forest Rest House and GMVN Guest House at Har ki Doon that provides accommodation facilities.

Day 4

Har ki Doon – Jaundhar Glacier – Har ki Doon

Wake up to see the Swargarohini Peaks soaring high. It is a stunning peak that will make you fall in love with the Himalayas. The route to Jaundhar Glacier goes from descending down into the valley and walking towards the peak on left. If the weather is good then you can approach for Jaundhar Glacier which is situated at an altitude of 3, 700mts above sea level. Jaundhar Glacier is one of the least visited glaciers of India.

In order to reach Maninda Tal we must first walk back towards the bridge before the FRH and climb on the left side of the valley. The trail is thin and can occupy only one person at a time, so make sure you walk in line and don’t try to overtake. After traversing for a kilometer the route opens up to a wide valley. This valley leads to Borasu Pass ( a difficult trek ) which acts as an entry gate to Himachal. After crossing couple of glaciers and gradually ascending on altitude, you’ll reach Maninda Tal where a huge rock is blocking a glacial stream to form a lake with crystal clear water. Spend some time in this mystical valley and start trekking back towards Har ki Doon before the weather gets bad.

Day 5

Har ki Doon – Osla

Trekback on the same trail and pay a visit to the isolated yet culturally richvillage of Osla. A unique temple is dedicated to Duryodhana of Mahabharata inthe village of Osla. Osla Village is located on the opposite side of Seema.Chat with local villagers and trek back to Seema around lunch time.

Day 6

Osla – Taluka – Sankri

After breakfast, trek back to Taluka and thereon to Sankri

Note: If you are able to reach by afternoon and the bus to Purola is available then you can board it and make a night halt at Purola instead of staying at Sankri. This way you’ll be able to reach Dehradun early the next day.

Sankri – Dehradun

Catch early morning bus/cab from Sankri to Dehradun.
